Shoe lovers rejoice

By kristen, 1 April, 2010, No Comment

Who said dressing stylish has to be painful?

I have a huge shoe fetish, but always keep comfort in mind when I choose a new pair. Why, you ask? Well, I have had two foot fractures from wearing the wrong shoes–once from flats! Ever since, I search long and hard to find cute comfort shoes. But guess what? YOU don’t have to, because I’ve found some great selections for your spring 2010 wardrobe.sofft rachelle!

I found a pair that of platforms that are both gorgeous AND comfy. Check them out. They are by Sofft, and are available at Nordstrom. They are VERY padded in the balls of your feet, have modern cage styling and  feel so good! They come in several colors, so I got them in nude patent , since nude is the new black and will match many of my spring/summer looks. Nude heels will make your legs look longer…who doesn’t want longer legs?

This pair, also by Sofft at Nordstromsofft redondo, are pretty sexy if I do say so myself! They have cool double ankle straps, a stacked wood heel and a platform base that is pillowy, cushiony heaven.

I’ve realized that I’m willing to sacrifice many things for fashion, but not my feet. When you find a pair that is both cute AND comfy, snatch them up! Aaaahhh is such a nice change from ouch, isn’t it?

Cardigans, a wardrobe MUST! Part 1…

By kristen, 14 January, 2010, No Comment

It’s hard to avoid the cardigan craze that’s been going on for some time now, isn’t it? I have loved cardigans for many years…they evoke images of being on my dad or grandpa’s lap and working the buttons on their cardigans. Whatever cardigans (aka cardis ) mean to you, they’re comforting, warm, and can be super stylish.

Cardigans work well with so many outfits, I feel like I could wear them daily. This post will focus on cardigans for the office or more of a dressy look. I’ll follow this up with Part 2: some casual, but hip, cardi choices.

charter club cashmere ruffled cardigan sweaterMy “go to” outfit for work includes a cardigan–you can wear them almost all year round, except in the hot summer days. I prefer a fitted cardigan for business attire, such as this Charter Club Cashmere ruffled cardigan. I would wear this cardigan nipped in at the waist with a skinny belt.  I love this look, it’s kind of that “sexy secretary” look and it never goes out of style. This cardigan is on sale for $59.99 at macys.com, and did I mention it’s CASHMERE? If you haven’t tried cashmere, please do. It’s so soft and luxe…you’re guaranteed to love it!BCBGmaxazriaMonicaPonte knit pencil

Wear this Charter Club Cashmere ruffled cardiganwith a classic pencil skirt. This one is by BCBG Max Axria from nordstrom.com. Pencil skirts are a must for your wardrobe! Whenever you have an occasion to dress up, even if it’s your husband’s work party, a black pencil skirt is a workhorse in your closet. Pencil skirts are so flattering and sexy with a pair of heels or heeled boots.

7GeorgiaTabtrouserYou can also use this Charter Club Cashmere ruffled cardiganwith a dressy trouser for the office, I’d suggest a pair of Georgia Tab Trousers, by 7forallmankind.com (who is currently offering free shipping, so go fot it!) These are classic trousers and will be a wardrobe staple.

My last look is showing a dressy look with a cardigan. You can top a basic dress with a cardigan during the day madewell super slouchy cardiganand then add heels, a cuff bracelet, and a clutch and you’re ready for happy hour! This look, by Madewell at Jcrew.com, is great with the “it” look that so many celebs are sporting these days– a dress + cardigan+ tights! This look really showcases how versatile a cardigan can be!

This is not your grandma’s cardigan! Oh, and by the way, don’t try wearing your grandma’s cardigan for these updated looks, it won’t work! We want to be cool mamas, not frumpy ones!

Cardigan love to all.

Stocking Stuffers for the ladies

By kristen, 21 December, 2009, 1 Comment

We all love our little things, don’t we? My love of stocking stuffers goes way back to my childhood, when I thought I was done opening presents, until I realized…OH! We still have our stockings! YAY!

It’s time to check out some of our recommendations for the ladies in your life! Women out there, show this to your man for some ideas–I am doing the same thing.

P246933_heroI hate to use the word need, but I NEED this “Glitz, Glam & Gloss ” kit by Benefit Cosmetics in my stocking, available on sephora.com. For a lean $26, it packs a punch. This gloss lovers kit has six different mini glosses in cute versatile shades.  They would look nice on many skin tones, so try these out for several people!

 hangbag hanger springstreet

I also recommend these cool handbag hangers from Spring Street Design Group at Nordstrom.com! I really wish I thought of this winning innovation! No more putting your beloved bag on a dirty floor at a restaurant or lounge or on the back of your chair (where I personally had a bag stolen once!). Hang this on a table and your bag is right under the table at arms’ reach!  They come in many designs, but this flower is one of my favorites! Not only adorable, but practical!  It’s for ANY woman who carries a bag–your mom, sister, friend, your kids’ teacher, ANYONE! How great!

I love multitasking items, which this little treat does. It’s a key chain that has the dkny be delicious keychainDKNY Be Delicious fragrance in a solid perfume inside, availble on sephora.com. It’s functional because you’ll always have a great scent at your fingertips but also a cute keychain.

For the lovers of heels, (like me) but also can’t stand the pain after a while…these adorable ballet flats fold up to fsamara-bronze-leather-ait in your smallest evening bag, even in a clutch! We all need some of these Yosi Samra shoes! They come in several different colors, so pick one that will be versatile for every look! I love metallics for maximum versatility.

I hope you enjoy these suggestions and that you show them to your loved ones for you, or choose some of them to give to your loved ones!

Happy stocking stuffing and Merry Christmas!

You need a Cocktail… Ring!

You need a Cocktail… Ring!

What comes to mind when you think of cocktail rings? Do you immediately cringe and think about your great-grandmothers jeweled cocktail ring. Do not fear, the cocktail rings I am referring to look nothing like what your great-grandmother wore and can be fabulous additions to your jewelry collection.

Binge or Bargain: your perfect winter coat!

Tis the season, isn’t it? Tis the season for holiday cheer, parties, ice skating, window shopping…but what about the COLD temperatures out there? A coat is the only solution, but it’s hard to be both warm and stylish at the same time!

The un-MOM Jean

By kristen, 16 November, 2009, 3 Comments

newdknikkiLet’s talk jeans, shall we? This is an area where so many women have problems with finding the right fit for their body style. We all need jeans that flatter us and make us feel great!

Some women are wearing the dreaded “mom” jeans, which nip in at the waist, have pleats, and make butts look huge (not to mention the 80’s tapered legs). Mom jeans are just wrong– Click here to see if you look like this in your jeans, or to have a laugh!

Women’s bodies change a lot after having babies, so you are not alone if you’ve discovered that your pre-pregnancy jeans just don’t look right anymore. It’s time to get some that really fit your body NOW! We’ve tried on loads of designer jeans in search of a great fit. Here are some tips:

  • Look for jeans with a low/medium rise. What is that, you may wonder? The top of the jeans starts a couple inches below your navel and covers your whole butt, including a bit above the crack–this helps when you are picking up the kids and prevents showing your thong or panties to the world!
  • Make sure the jeans fit your legs and hips. They should have a nice long length that allows for the tip of your shoe to show underneath. (Skinny jeans should be shorter for wearing with flats or tucking into boots, which is my personal fave–the skinny jeans pictured are by Joe’s).joes skinny
  • Many of us struggle with this: the jeans fit, but the waist is huge. Helpful Hint–have them tailored! Tailoring is essential in achieving the best fit. I’ve tailored many pants since having children, and feel great in having custom pieces that truly fit my body. You will too!
  • Look for pockets that emphasize or de-emphasize your derriere. If you have a full tush, go for pockets that are flat and cover most of it. Some pockets sit higher on the tush, which helps to visually lift it. If you have a flatter tush, go for pockets with a flap to visually give you more shape.

Dark wash jeans are very much en vogue right now because they flatter everyone, so you can never go wrong here. If you go lighter, remember the rules of fit and go for it!

My new favorite jeans for the best fit (pictured above left) are made by David Kahn Jeanswear, found at Nordstrom and, if you’re lucky, at Nordstrom Rack at a deep discount!
