Pile on the bracelets

By kristen, 19 March, 2010, 2 Comments

I truly love funky accessories and the way they can transform an outfit. We’ve addressed bracelets in former posts, including the cuff bracelet. Now let’s talk about another bracelet favorite of ours…stacked bracelets!1980-madonna

Stacking bracelets seems to have begun in ancient Eqypt, but Madonna popularized the look with her black rubber and metal bracelets in the 80’s. This picture of her really brings back memories for me. But I digress.

Back to the new milennium…

Wearing stacked bracelets seems to always be in style, but it’s front and center in 2010. Sdrewtacking bracelets works with many types of materials, such as metal, wood, leather or lacquer. They can dress up a simple dress, as Drew Barrymore did with bunches of gold bangles. With her simple dress, hair pulled back and simple hoops, it’s a beautiful look. You can find bangles just about anywhere, and they don’t have to be solid gold (as I bet Drew’s are). Try stores like Kohl’s or even Target for some of these looks at affordable prices. At these discount stores, you can afford to buy several bracelets to create your own look.

For a more casual look, check out this photo. DSquared2-bjx-F9-029This woman is wearing many different types of bracelets: leather straps with metal chains and a couple of charms hanging down. The more, the better! Sporting a look like this will look very cool with a  boyfriend blazer with the sleeves pushed up, which is a very popular look right now. I’d consider adding some wood bangles to a look like this, as wood bangles are perfect with summer sundresses or maxi dresses in the warmer months.

My last look is worn by one of fashion’s icons, Jennifer Lopez, from the February 2010 cover of Elle. She looks killer in this cover, but note the stacked bracelets and how they really stand out in this shot. Are you heading to the beach this Winter?

By Michelle, 1 February, 2010, No Comment
I am eagerly awaiting my upcoming beach getaway in the next few weeks.   What better way to break up the winter cold by escaping to the beach for a few days and doing nothing but relaxing and recharging.  Of course, I begin to think about what to bring on this trip.  Because I plan to spend the majority of my time lounging by the pool, I don’t think I need that much.

I can only come up with 6 items that are essential to your trip.  First, a swim suit. If you have not purchased a new suit in a few years, I would encourage you to get out there and find a new suit.  I don’t wear a swimsuit that often but you will be surprised how a few dozen wearings over a few summers can max out a suit.  Plus, with all the new styles and fits, you can find just the right suit that makes you feel great!  Second, find a cotton or jersey sundress to double as a swim cover up.  This will allow you to get some lunch without feeling like to have to completely change out of your suit.  Lastly, find a cute pair of wedge sandals that are comfortable and stylish.

Lets talk accessories…  having a hat and good pair of sunglasses are a MUST HAVE.  It is essential that you shade your face and eyes from the sun to make sure that you are taking care of your delicate skin.  I love a cowboy hat for a little added style.  I also like to recommend the new shield type glasses that offer more coverage for added protection.

Lastly, you can’t forget a beach tote to carry your book and sunscreen to the beach or pool.  I really adore this metallic Tory Burch bag and while I think its a little on the pricey side, I am sure you can find a similar type bag at Target or Kohl’s for a fraction of the price.

As you are getting ready for your trip, you may find many of these essentials in your closet now.  Make sure you shop there first!

The cuff bracelet–your wrist deserves one!

I am loving the idea of a cuff bracelet! Cuff bracelets have been around since the beginning of time and will continue to be a piece you can wear for years to come.

Add some sparkle to your outfit with embellishment

It’s the holiday season, the time of the year that everything sparkles. So, I ask…why not have a little sparkle yourself? You may be thinking…”I can’t wear sequins– too flashy for me!” We’re not suggesting wearing a whole sequined dress–this is best left for the awards shows. We’re talking one piece that has some shine…

Binge or Bargain: Black Tuxedo Jacket

By Michelle, 24 November, 2009, 22 Comments

Last year, I noticed many celebrities sporting the black Tuxedo Jacket with everything from jeans to a mini dress.  Now the black jacket has become a “must-have” for our closets.   If you can find a classic yet modern fit, it can be a ” go to” piece for many years to come.

Keep in mind…a proper fit is essential for this look to maintain a feminine sillouette and that extra touch to your outfit.  Your jacket should fit fairly snug but should not pull or gap at the bust.  If you are larger on top, fit the jacket to your bust and then have a tailor bring in the waist to maintain the snug fit and accentuate your waist.

So how much should a black tuxedo jacket cost you?  This is all dependent on your budget, of course.  I found 2 different jackets that I thought really captured the modern and feminine tuxedo look at 2 different price points.

I adore this Marc by Marc Jacobs Tuxedo Jacket featured on Piperlime.  I think it defines a modern yet classic look.  The darting around the middle instantly creates a small waistline, not matter what your size.   This jacket is $388 on Piperlime.  It is a classic piece that will last for seasons to come, but for some the initial investment might be a little more than what is comfortable.  Which prompted me to find this next example from Kohl’s…

This AB Studio Notch Collar Jacket from Kohl’s has similar styling with darting and also the addition of buttons around the waist to create a slimming effect.  I also think the notch-collar adds a little extra touch to the jacket, but would not be 531611considered too trendy.  This jacket is currently on sale at Kohl’s for $42.99.  Quite a deal when you consider that this jacket  from Kohl’s is a 89% savings over the Marc Jacobs jacket.

Both jackets really epitomize classic style that can work with many different pieces in your closet for years to come.
