Pile on the bracelets

By kristen, 19 March, 2010, 2 Comments

I truly love funky accessories and the way they can transform an outfit. We’ve addressed bracelets in former posts, including the cuff bracelet. Now let’s talk about another bracelet favorite of ours…stacked bracelets!1980-madonna

Stacking bracelets seems to have begun in ancient Eqypt, but Madonna popularized the look with her black rubber and metal bracelets in the 80’s. This picture of her really brings back memories for me. But I digress.

Back to the new milennium…

Wearing stacked bracelets seems to always be in style, but it’s front and center in 2010. Sdrewtacking bracelets works with many types of materials, such as metal, wood, leather or lacquer. They can dress up a simple dress, as Drew Barrymore did with bunches of gold bangles. With her simple dress, hair pulled back and simple hoops, it’s a beautiful look. You can find bangles just about anywhere, and they don’t have to be solid gold (as I bet Drew’s are). Try stores like Kohl’s or even Target for some of these looks at affordable prices. At these discount stores, you can afford to buy several bracelets to create your own look.

For a more casual look, check out this photo. DSquared2-bjx-F9-029This woman is wearing many different types of bracelets: leather straps with metal chains and a couple of charms hanging down. The more, the better! Sporting a look like this will look very cool with a  boyfriend blazer with the sleeves pushed up, which is a very popular look right now. I’d consider adding some wood bangles to a look like this, as wood bangles are perfect with summer sundresses or maxi dresses in the warmer months.

My last look is worn by one of fashion’s icons, Jennifer Lopez, from the February 2010 cover of Elle. She looks killer in this cover, but note the stacked bracelets and how they really stand out in this shot. Transition from winter to spring, a la Kensie

By kristen, 11 February, 2010, No Comment

It’s that time of the year…we’ve had a good dose of winter and are desperately looking forward to spring. Although we’re bundled up and trying to stay warm, give yourself a treat and consider some pieces that transition from winter to spring and beyond.

I’ve really started noticing clothes by Kensie lately. They’re affordable and super stylish. If you’re in a style rut and need to be “perked up,” look to this brand, that is available at most department stores. You’ll find feminine details like ruffles and illusion, that add intrigue and jazz up your wardrobe. kensie dress ruffled bib

In the spring, pair it with a pale pencil skirt and heeled sandals for a dressier look, or with skinny jeans and flats. For a more edgy look, pair this top with shorts and heels.

This dress from Kensie at macys.com can go from winter to spring without a problem. Here’s how to pull it off: kensie ruffled illusion macyswear it in the winter with either opaque dark tights or even black leggings. I’d put a cropped motorcycle jacket on top and wear it with boots or cage heels.

For the spring, remove the tights/leggings and pair with a pair of metallic heels. like those above. If it’s a chillier evening, wear with a cropped jean jacket or shrug.

Even though the groundhog saw his shadow last week, you can be stylish and fresh during this long winter and be prepared for spring in your cute new clothes.

The cuff bracelet–your wrist deserves one!

I am loving the idea of a cuff bracelet! Cuff bracelets have been around since the beginning of time and will continue to be a piece you can wear for years to come.
