Transition from winter to spring, a la Kensie

By kristen, 11 February, 2010, No Comment

It’s that time of the year…we’ve had a good dose of winter and are desperately looking forward to spring. Although we’re bundled up and trying to stay warm, give yourself a treat and consider some pieces that transition from winter to spring and beyond.

I’ve really started noticing clothes by Kensie lately. They’re affordable and super stylish. If you’re in a style rut and need to be “perked up,” look to this brand, that is available at most department stores. You’ll find feminine details like ruffles and illusion, that add intrigue and jazz up your wardrobe. kensie dress ruffled bib

Cardigan love, part deux

Cardigans are versatile, you can dress them up or wear them casual–this is one piece that works overtime in your wardrobe!

I assembled 2 looks with these 3 basic pieces: a cardigan, a pair of skinny jeans, and a skinny belt.

Look #1:

The pieces on the left side of the base outfit are a more casual (but hip, of course) cardigan look, which is appropriate for everyday use. I’ve added a colorful, comfy camisole, a versatile scarf and some sweet studded boots. You don’t have to wear sneakers to be comfortable, ladies! There are plenty of cute flat-heeled boots around this season. If you’re in a warmer climate, add a pair of metallic flats for a similar look. These animal print ones are pretty cute!

Look #2:

The dressier look on the right pairs the original 3 pieces with a gorgeous pair of earrings, a colorful sleeveless blouse and a hot pair of ankle booties. This look is perfect for dinner out with your hubby or a girls’ night out. If you prefer flats or live in a warm climate, check out these studded gladiator sandals–they’re more dressy with the studs.

Price points on these pieces vary from affordable to some higher-end pieces. We advise spending more on the classic pieces, such as the cardigan, that will be in your closet for years to come.

It’s more about putting together pieces that look great together. You can find similar pieces at your favorite retailer at any price point

Lillian Top, $35
Pink Striped Lace Camisole, 4 GBP

Cardigans, a wardrobe MUST! Part 1…

By kristen, 14 January, 2010, No Comment

It’s hard to avoid the cardigan craze that’s been going on for some time now, isn’t it? I have loved cardigans for many years…they evoke images of being on my dad or grandpa’s lap and working the buttons on their cardigans. Whatever cardigans (aka cardis ) mean to you, they’re comforting, warm, and can be super stylish.

Cardigans work well with so many outfits, I feel like I could wear them daily. This post will focus on cardigans for the office or more of a dressy look. I’ll follow this up with Part 2: some casual, but hip, cardi choices.

charter club cashmere ruffled cardigan sweaterMy “go to” outfit for work includes a cardigan–you can wear them almost all year round, except in the hot summer days. I prefer a fitted cardigan for business attire, such as this Charter Club Cashmere ruffled cardigan. I would wear this cardigan nipped in at the waist with a skinny belt.  I love this look, it’s kind of that “sexy secretary” look and it never goes out of style. This cardigan is on sale for $59.99 at macys.com, and did I mention it’s CASHMERE? If you haven’t tried cashmere, please do. It’s so soft and luxe…you’re guaranteed to love it!BCBGmaxazriaMonicaPonte knit pencil

Wear this Charter Club Cashmere ruffled cardiganwith a classic pencil skirt. This one is by BCBG Max Axria from nordstrom.com. Pencil skirts are a must for your wardrobe! Whenever you have an occasion to dress up, even if it’s your husband’s work party, a black pencil skirt is a workhorse in your closet. Pencil skirts are so flattering and sexy with a pair of heels or heeled boots.

These are classic trousers and will be a wardrobe staple.

My last look is showing a dressy look with a cardigan. You can top a basic dress with a cardigan during the day madewell super slouchy cardiganand then add heels, a cuff bracelet, and a clutch and you’re ready for happy hour! This look, by Madewell at Jcrew.com, is great with the “it” look that so many celebs are sporting these days– a dress + cardigan+ tights! This look really showcases how versatile a cardigan can be!

This is not your grandma’s cardigan! Oh, and by the way, don’t try wearing your grandma’s cardigan for these updated looks, it won’t work! We want to be cool mamas, not frumpy ones!

Cardigan love to all.
